Hale Family Advent Calendar

Here is my husband's family advent calendar. We are lucky that we were the ones out of his 2 other siblings who got to keep it. It was (and is) a very cherished family heirloom made by his great Aunt. Because there is only one, I am going to try and make his sister and brother one for their family. It's made out of burlap and felt. I know making the base of it and pockets will be fairly simple but the ornaments are what will be hard. I think instead of making them by hand, I am going to try to find little tiny Christmas Ornaments in shapes like the one on the original advent to go on the tree instead.
I am open to ideas though!

  1. Wow, we had this same advent calendar! My Mom made it out of a magazine pattern when I was about a year old, and I still hang it up every year. Originally, Mom made a set of simple felt cut-out ornaments, which she decorated by gluing on sequins. Then later, when I was in high school, she and I made a new set of sewn and stuffed ornaments together.

But there are lots of great balsa wood cut-out shapes in craft stores that your family could decorate with Sharpies, or you could even trace around cookie cutters onto some chipboard, cut out the shapes and paint them.

    Happy Advent!!
