Ballard's Knockoff Bulletin Board

When the latest Ballard Catalog came in the mail, I immediately wanted this burlap bulletin board.

Of course my mind started thinking of ways I could make it cheaper. Also, I needed one that was smaller for a perfect spot above my craft desk.

I had just been to Sam's Club and picked up some diet coke (my fav) and they came in this cardboard container. I cut the edges off so that it was flat.

Then, I cut some burlap so that about an inch or so hung over the board. I hot glued 2 sides so that the burlap was tight around the cardboard. Then I glued down the rest.

This is what it looked like after it was all glued down.

I happened to have some furniture tacks handy and so I stuck them in about an inch apart. Because I put the tacks into cardboard, they stick out a little bit. No worries.

I just took some pliers and bent down the sharp parts.

Here it is all done!

It works perfectly to hold little pieces of paper or inspiration for a new project!

I am linking this project to THESE parties.

Check Your Pockets Laundry Sign

When my sister Farris saw THIS post with the laundry sign from the blog Love Stitched, she wanted one of her own. So I made her one for Christmas! The hardest part was finding a cabinet door. I basically asked everyone I knew if they had an extra cabinet door laying around, but no one did. Then my other sister suggested the "Habitat for Humanity" store. I had never been but I can say now that it's my favorite place! I didn't even have to paint the cabinet door or anything! I used SCAL to design the vinyl and had my husband attach the basket with super glue. He tested it out and it holds a wallet and a blackberry which is exactly what my sister needed. I thought about taking the door handle off but then I thought it would be nice to hang belts or a bag on for lint. I now have to make myself one of these. :) So my sister LOVED it and did a dance when she saw it. Yippy!

CREATE for less.

One of my favorite things ever is when you find something super expensive and make it for super cheap! It's such a wonderful feeling! Imperfectly Beautiful made my day with this post. She found the photo below in Ballard Designs.

It would have cost $300 to buy this. No not the hutch, just the letters saying CREATE :) Here is the version she came up with for less than $8.00!! That's a savings of $292.

She used embroidery hoops, her cricut machine and some linen she had lying around. She was going to try and find some circle frames at thrift stores but then just couldn't wait. Um, I LOVE it.
